Cutting out Background Question
I have been trying my heart out to cut out the picture of Kylie from the background. I think it is almost impossible due to the background color being similar to the color of her hair. I must say, I have only been trying to do it as a project in an effort to hone my skills on cutting out the background of objects. I would appreciate any help on this or any comments on how one should go about it. Many Thanks ... Gary

RE: Cutting out Background Question
You might find the G'MIC plugin for GIMP useful for this.

It's Smart foreground extraction tool works quite well:

RE: Cutting out Background Question
The eternal fine hair problem.

I thought give gmic a try.

This is what the dialog looks like
(this gmic filter is going to give a great boost to mouse makers as left and right mouse button micro-switches die from over use)

You do get a result & with a bit of erasing and cloning
a bit quick, needs more time on repair.

but, for that particular image, those areas of shadow are going to be a problem. They look terrible with a new background.
