cutting an image (car) and pasting to a background
I am a total newbey-noob to this site. I was refererred by a member who speaks highly of the support here in this forum. One of the things i need to learn is how to go about cutting an image, like a car and laying it on a background. I figured out how to outline the image but creating a background and actually inserting the cutout escapes me. Can someone help me in laymans terms? I work for a classic car dealership and i take the photos for the ads. I need to be able to create a nice background that i can insert every auto into, in exactly the same place. Thanks in advance!

RE: cutting an image (car) and pasting to a background
If you just want a uniform background:
- Open the cutout image
- Make sure you have the "Layers" dialog open
- Set the required background color in the color choice
- Layer/New layer and fill it with the background color
- In the Layers dialog, drag that new layer below your cutout

If you have a specific image for the background:
- Open the background image
- "File/Open as layers" and pick the car image
- Use the Move tool (Move) to adjust the car position

When you are a beginner, this is usually where you find that your cutout isn't as good as it seems Dodgy See you in some "how can I improve the cutout" thread (post the original picture then) Smile

Some person want to create some thing extra in their photo framing then they can do many things to give something extra ordinary look. They can add colors in that images and can make some different color.

What goes in the clipboard is the pixels in the selected layer that are covered by the selection mask, so make sure the proper layer is selected, Select/Select all, and Edit/Copy.

However, if you want to use the cutout in several images, save to file (as XCF or PNG, because you need to keep the transparency information), and in the images where you need it, use "File/Open as layer".
