Wink Customize paper print sizes in Gimp?
Hello Everyone,

Is it possible to add a custom paper size to Gimp? I have a new HP wide format printer and was looking for a capability to customize the paper size. Hewlett Packard and Microsoft have said that the customization of paper size is application specific even though Microsoft tells you can customize paper size through server properties Big Grin, which on my XP machine will not save the custom settings.
Thanks in advance,
Marie459

Note: This page, even though it is not a Microsoft page, shows what Microsoft tells you to do.

File/Page setup and in the page size selector, there is a "Custom sizes" choice that takes you to a dialog to enter your paper size.

I just checked, I don't have an option to do a custom size. I'm running Gimp 2.6.11

The page you refer to is right. The best place to define supported paper size is in the printer driver. I would expect this to require admin/owner priviledges to make it stick, though.

On another track, is your paper size very special, and do you need to do margin-less printing?

The paper size is 9x12. Marginless printing would be preferable.

According Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paper_size) that would be the LD, DSC format (89×119mm)

RE: Customize paper print sizes in Gimp?
I am trying to print on a 3.5" x 9.125 size of paper.......this is driving me nuts.
When I go into Page setup and select custom all I get is margin setup......trying to tell it paper size.
I have the size setup in my printer profile but I cannot get it to print properly in GIMP.

@goad

You posted this before and the advice was that Gimp in the M$ Windows environment is not very good at printing.

Best advice is export your image and print using some other application

Your post raises other questions

Do you actually have a piece of paper three and a half by nine and an eighth inches or is it for some other purpose such as a cad machine ?

Using linux and gutenprint I can print a large image, down to 3" x 11" on a sheet of A4

screenshot http://i.imgur.com/NlZ0bl9.jpg

but even here I can not set a custom paper, size 3.5" x 8.25", only the position on the A4 sheet.

Gutenprint. just gave it another try at setting up a non-supported printer in M$ and Gimp 2.8
Sorry, not going to work see: http://gimpforums.com/thread-gutenprint

One option would be install linux Wink

Is it possible to attach that to a regular size sheet of backing paper somehow?

On a more trivial level I have occasionally attached fan-fold label strips onto A4 and carefully fed into the printer.

edit: another couple of questions: What make of printer? What is the printer capability in respect of paper size?

more thoughts: Is it something like this http://www.acp.com/support_press_mugs.htm where the advice is print on a letter size sheet, although I see that 3.5"x9" is a regular size. hmm..problems Wink

RE: Customize paper print sizes in Gimp?
I actually purchased Mug sized paper to print on, which is 3.5 x 9.125. If I take my design and export as png or jpg, and copy that into MS Word it prints fine. But when I try and print from GIMP I get all kinds of weird prints. I can print it on a letter size paper with NO problems, but what is the point of buying the mug size that I did....I just dont want to waste a large portion of a full sheet of sub paper.
I am using GIMP 2.8 and my printer is an Epson WF-7010.
I am about to break down and buy Corel Draw it may be more user friendly. But I LOVE the cost of GIMP....lol But I am determined to sublimate Mugs....

Corel Draw is expensive and it is also largely vector orientated.

Have you thought about using Inkscape. You can import raster images into it and lettering / graphics will be better. Just had a quick look and a 3.5" x 9" page sets up as a 'custom' size.

Worth a try.

Definitely a candidate for linux / Gimp / gimp-gutenprint plugin. Wink
