Curving an uploaded font
I have made my own font since none of the Gimp fonts suited my purpose. I would like to curve it to a path; I have curved a Gimp font to a path already. Can't seem to figure it out.. Sad I only just downloaded it an hour ago. I've been using Paint.NET, lol.

RE: Curving an uploaded font
If it's really a font, install font, create text with Text tool using font, and strike the "Text along path button" in the Text tool options.

If it's a path that looks like text, I have an experimental script that will do a "path along path". If you want to give it a try, check that your Gimp install will support python-fu ("Python-fu" item near "script-fu" at the bottom of the "filters" menu) and PM me.

No, it's not a true text. I can't just click the "Text along path" button. I only just opened a file that looooks like text; letters I put together myself.
As for your path along path..... my letters aren't a path... or are they? I don't think they are considered a path. Lol, "paths" are new to me.

If you just have a regular layer, then look at "Filters/Distorts/Curve bend"

I'm aware of that available effect.. but I don't want to distort the letters or make it buldge. The curve bend filter seems to be messy like that. I want the image to form along a curved path I create.

RE: Curving an uploaded font
The actual distortion in the curve bend depends on the curve you use, and if you use the same curve for top and bottom. Another solution (with 2.7/2.8) is to use the "Cage" tool, but it may also cause some distortion.

Otherwise approximating your letters/shapes with a "path" in the Path editor is rather easy and fast once you get the hang of it, and my imitation of text-along-path will handle that.

RE: Curving an uploaded font
Not so easy in Gimp, Hopefully Ofnuts will come up with a truly great utility to pop an image onto a path.

In the meantime you could use Inkscape as an intermediate step.

Start off with your modified text which is rendered to an image.

Import the image into Inkscape then "trace the bitmap" to produce a vector.

Then it is just a simple tool which deforms along a path, much the same as text-to-path in Gimp.

When finished export back out as a bitmap for Gimp. Still a bit of cleaning up to do but nothing drastic.
