Cropping a circle
I'd like to crop a circle out of an patterned image.
Can you tell me how?

Thanks

RE: Cropping a circle
To restrict an image to a circle is very easy:
- Make circle selection
- Invert selection
-[delete]

So since you ask and you are talking about a "patterned image", can you elaborate a bit? D you want the crop to be aligned with the pattern?

RE: Cropping a circle
1) use the Ellipse select tool (Ellipseselect)
2) Select/Invert

Additional notes:

- there are no circular images, only square images with transparent corner
- to save your image with transparent corners, use a file type that supports transparency (usually, PNG, especially if this is for a web page)
- In Gimp, as in other software, transparency is indicated by a gray checkerboard pattern.
- to allow an image loaded from a JPEG to be transparent, use "Layer/Transparency/Add alpha channel", if you don't, you won't get transparency but the default background color (white, usually). If the option is grayed, the alpha channel is already set.
