Convert one color to a specific other color
I have a layer that is all white with text and some shapes (with heavy anti-aliasing, so the alpha channel variations of white, too) and I am trying to convert it to a specific other color (just a cream color that I have the HTML code for).

I've tried various techniques for this, but nothing works all that well.

So, when a layer is all one color (not counting variation in alpha values), is there a technique to change that to a specific other color, rather than just toggling the "Color Balance" to get an approximation?

Great thanks as always (probably to OfNuts, who seems to own the responses here!)

RE: Convert one color to a specific other color
Use Color-to-alpha to remove the white, and insert your cream layer below. But if you have whitish tones in your shapes, they will be changed to creamish. You can prevent that using a seleciton before applying C2A: wand select the background, and "grow" the selection by one pixel. Then C2A only applies to the background and the border pixels.

Well, the problem with this is that the layer with the white has many parts of it which are very tiny and so, for example, using a "grow" and other such imprecise techniques would make these tiny, precise areas a "pixel stew" (to borrow your expression).

I was hoping for a one-stop shop, honestly (just one color to another), but I guess that doesn't exist.

See the "background removal" link in my sig... you'll understand why the "grow" is actually a very precise technique , when used with "color to alpha".
