Combine two images
I have two images I am using for my webpage. One is a gif logo which has an image and text on a white background. The other is a jpeg textured color I am using as background for the webpage. I want to change the background color of the logo to match. I can't begin to figure out how to do this. Thanks for any help or advice.

RE: Combine two images
The best solution is not to combine them (if only because you would have to handle the junction of the textures...)... the best solution is to change the white in the logo to be transparent:

- load the logo image in Gimp
- make sure the layer has an alpha channel, otherwise add one ("Layers" dialog (Ctrl-L, or the menu "Windows/Dockable dialogues/Layers", right click on the layer (likely called "Background" at this point), and if "Add alpha channel" isn't greyed out, that's the thing to click, otherwise you already have an alpha channel.
- select the "select by color" tool.
- click anywhere on the white are of your logo, this should select all the white (including inside closed letters such as "e" or "o")
- hit the Delete key. The white is now replaced by the checkerboard pattern that indicates transparency
- save as transparent GIF, or better, as PNG (PNG can do anything GIF does, better, and is fully supported by all web browsers)
- on your page, your background image should show up through the transparent areas of your logo.

Thank you so much. This does the trick perfectly. Also thanks for the tip about png. I've been managing my website for quite a few years, but this is the first reference I've seen to using png instead of gif or jpeg. Learn something new every day Shy
