Colour of text on a path
Okay, so I finally managed to create some text along a curved path. That took a while. Now how do I A) fill it with some colour (it looks like it's just outlined text right now), and B) make it actually part of the image (exporting the image to jpeg, it doesn't seem to show up Rolleyes )

RE: Colour of text on a path
What you have is a only a "path", which are instructions for a virtual pen. You can either stroke the path ("Edit/Stroke path") to obtain an outline or obtain a selection from the path ("Select/From path") that you bucket-fill (or else.. you can also fill it with a gradient...).

It is useful to open "Windows/Dockable dialogs/Paths" to make sure you are working with the right path if you have several...

RE: Colour of text on a path
I was going to say "that doesn't work" but on selecting the right layer, it does! Thanks very much! I did actually already know I had to convert my path to a selection, but as I said, it simply wasn't working until I was working in the right layer, which isn't the one the path is on!

Okay, related questions.

Why, when I try to fill the text selection do the part(s) over a transparent/alpha area, does that part not get filled, and what is more I can't fill them "manually"? (Oh, okay, forget that - if I do "Merge Down" then I can go back and fill that area manually. Is there a better way though?)

The rest of the path is also "filled", I think - it becomes visible in the final image (Okay, again, kind of forget that too - it isn't the case in the final image exported to jpeg, but is visible in the image I'm working on, so it's kind of distracting, but not a showstopper.)

Hmm. The path isn't related to any specific layer. It belongs to the image. However, if you have no layer selected then nothing happens when you "paint" (thouhg in many cases, no layer is selected because a channel is selected in the "Channels" view, and whatever you did was applied to that channel instead

Fill should work if you click inside the selection and you have a layer selected. If the layer is transparent and you have checked (by mistake?) the "alpha lock" at the top of the Layers list, then nothing will happen, because transparent pixels remain transparent.

You can make the path not visible by clicking on its "eye" icon in the Paths list.
