colorizing b&w image help
Hi all, I'm fairly new at gimp and am trying to add color to an old (1950's) photo. Gimp won't let me add anything but shades of grey. I can get it to work if I take a color image, make it black and white, and then recolor it, but this image is starting out b&w. Do images need to be digital for gimp to work? What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance for your help.

I think the solution to your problems is to go to the "Image/Mode" menu. You'll likely find that "Grayscale" is checked. Check "RGB" instead.
