Chopping an image into tiles
Hi,

I'm creating games with large background images. The performance is poor and I'm told I need to chop my image up into smaller tiles.

Is there an easy way to do this on GIMP?

My background images are up to 1000 x 6000pixels and ideally I need to chop them into 256x256 or 512x512 tiles.

Cheers,
Martin

Even if you use the regular guillotine you need to set up some guides first.

This is one of the few scripts that I have permanently installed.
"grid-of-guides" http://registry.gimp.org/node/12003

and I came across this just the other day.

Saving all the separate images generated by guillotine is tedious.
This automates it. "slice-image" http://registry.gimp.org/node/17699

Edit : Some time later. Posted in case someone revisits this subject.

I managed to confuse myself with these scripts. The link posted does cut up an image but it does not use guides. One of several that I had been trying out.

The one I should have indicated is slice-save.scm from here.

http://code.google.com/p/image-slice-sav...e-save.scm

It is old-ish, does work in Gimp 2.8.

Since it is not in plugin-registry site, to download look for the view raw link on the right, right click, save-as.
