Checkerboard transparency toggle

Checkerboard transparency toggle
Is there a simple way to toggle the checkerboard transparency on and off so I can see how the image will actually look while I'm editing/creating it?

I appreciate the response Ofnuts.
I've been using a different graphic program for over 20 years and it's taking a whlie to get used to gimp. Change doesn't come easy for us old geezers.
