Changing background
Hi Guys,

For sometime now Ive been watching gimp tutorial videos on youtube to learn how to change the background color to white. Thats all I want,and must add that the material out there is not very useful.Also now when I download free gimp,the layer box doesnt come up,only the tool box.Because of that I cant achieve desired results.Please advise.Ta

The layer dialog is obtained by Windows/Dockable dialogs (ou Ctrl-L). It's "dockable" which means you can drag it to an existing window (toolbox or another dockable dialog) to organize your UI (you can have one window with such dialogs as tabs).

Changing the background color is done by removing the background as explained there:

and then adding a new layer below the original, bucket-paint with the required color, and merging the two layers.
