RE: cant open network folder when open/save documents
@ofnuts

I would say that is windows7 (aero theme or something)

And a shot in the dark since I am not all that familiar with Win7

If it truly is on a network then it should show as another drive with a drive letter and the network symbol next to it. It does show like this in the Gimp open/export dialog.

But it might be more complicated than that at the other end. The shared folders might need their properties modified for sharing. Don't really know. Only have linux machines networked and that via a NAS.

Edit: Just throwing a few thoughts around.

I wonder if it is possible in Windows to open the networked computer using Gimp File -> Open location.

Ok this is in linux and I have my NAS set up for FTP rather than using SAMBA but I can open and save straight from Gimp.

The other thought. Can the OP open that shared folder using Windows file manager and copy the file to a local folder for editing?

RE: cant open network folder when open/save documents
@ paynekj i am using windows 7 and gimp2.8 virsion.
@ ofnuts and rich2005 i can access all the files on shared network computers. I have read /right permissions across the network and can view them from windows explorer.
but i can not able to save/open my gimp files in the shared network folder. i can not see network files in that pop up window.

RE: cant open network folder when open/save documents
I'm having the same problem - unable to browse network shares on Windows 7, GIMP 2.8.6.

It seems staggering that GIMP will only browse shares that you have mapped a network drive letter. I have half a dozen mapped network drives and these are OK. However, it is impractical (and sometimes impossible) to map a drive letter to every share, particularly on a large network that might have 100's of shares.

Every other Windows program is capable of browsing the network; but not GIMP with its GTK+ open/save/export dialog! (I like every other aspect of this dialog btw.)

The bizarre thing is, this isn't a new problem. There are threads from 6 years ago outlining the same problem - unable to browse the network in GIMP!
http://gimp.1065349.n5.nabble.com/GIMP-n...33393.html

However, there is a workaround (as mentioned in the above thread). Providing you know the computer name and share name of the network share you are trying to access then you can type the full network path into the "Name:" box and hit enter:
\\computer-name\share-name\
(Don't forget the trailing backslash)

You can then navigate the folders within that share.

Once you have done this once then the network path is saved in the "Recently used" list so you don't have to type it again.
