Can this be done in Gimp? HOW?
I am still in the learning phase and I wonder when I see professional works by graphic designers. I currently ONLY use GIMP. Anyway, how can I make these effects in GIMP if these can be done?
Follow the links:

I guess I haven't discovered many things in GIMP yet Sad
I wish I could learn such stuff. What I loved about this image was its illuminated color scheme and the use of fonts and effects.

RE: Can this be done in Gimp? HOW?
For starters, you'll want to work one element at a time, maybe start with the background.
(For example, do you want to add a glow to the text?...)

Try this tutorial on for size:
grunge effect in Gimp

Then once you've mastered that, move on to working the layers to get your text to show through.

-When you type your text, Gimp will put it onto a new transparent layer, on top of the background. So try to do this, then post a sample of your work if you get stuck & we can probably help more then.

One more tutorial for text glow:

-This tutorial is basic but you want to get down the fundamentals before you graduate to a more advance glow technique.

It will take some practice to get it to look just right, good luck Smile

RE: Can this be done in Gimp? HOW?
The second link you posted is very doable in Gimp, as it is just a few different textures, shapes, and some text. However the first one would be a considerable amount of work and although it could be done, it would require much more attention to detail, time, and knowledge of the program. If you would like a tutorial on how to create the first one I could help you with that, however the techniques required for the second one may be a little too length to fit into a tutorial reasonable length.
