Can't rotate text box in an XCF file, but can do so in another XCF file.
I can't rotate a text box in my XCF file. When I create a new XCF file, I can easily create and rotate a text box.
What's wrong?

I've attached the problematic XCF file. Please see if you can rotate the text box. Thanks.

Using Gimp 2.6 on Linux Mint.

RE: Can't rotate text box in an XCF file, but can do so in another XCF file.
I have managed to rotate your (pacman) in Windows Vista using Gimp 2.8 but it didn't show it in real time, by going to rotate tool placing cursor on your text box and watching the figures change in the dialogue box then hit "rotate". I found it easier to put cursor in your text box then right click text layer and select "alpha to selection" this will select the text only which you can then rotate with the rotate tool. The surrounding box will rotate in real time, then when it is in the right place hit "Rotate" in the rotate dialogue box.

If it doesn't work for you it might be something to do with Linux.
Hope this helps.

RE: Can't rotate text box in an XCF file, but can do so in another XCF file.
This is because you have a selection active but not shown (on the name tag). Since there is no intersection between your selection and the text layer you can't rotate anything if that layer is selected. Select/none and everything will be OK.

Ahhh! Simple solution. Thank you ofnuts.
I was able to rotate my text, but after I rotate it, I get a new layer called
Quote:Floating selection
(Transformation)

Also, after rotation, I see the "dancing ants" over my text.

What should I do next?

I've attached my progress so far.

Ofnuts, I think I found the solution. I just had to choose "Select All" or "Select None" again.

RE: Can't rotate text box in an XCF file, but can do so in another XCF file.
Rotation (and the other transform tools) do not work the same if there is a selection (partial or "select all") or no selection at all. When there is no selection, they simply apply to the active layer. When there is a selection, the selection is copied to a "floating selection" layer and the transform is applied to it, so you have to make it more permanent afterwards ("Anchor" or "New layer".
