Can't fix my mom!
I've been working with Gimp for a while, just learning' as I go on my own..playing it by ear. I especially love restoring and enhancing older photos. (My own family photos, that is)

I do pretty good, but every once in a while I'll run across a photo that seems so hopeless that i just can't seem to do anything with it. I'm hoping I can get some tips. For instance, I recently found a photo of my mom that my brother snapped years ago. The colors in her face are so dark and dirty that I just can't seem to make her look better no matter how much I fiddle with the color adjustments.

Is it me, or is it just the limitations of the software?

I was hoping someone could take a look at the photo and give me some tips on whether or not it is truly hopeless, and if there is hope, maybe tell me how to proceed.

Is there anybody here who can do that? I'm pretty desperate.
