Can't Copy & Paste Images from the Web?
I'm not new to GIMP by any means, but I am new to THIS Gimp. By that I mean, I recently downloaded 2.8.4 for Mac and got rid of my older copy.

Now I'm having a strange problem:

Whenever I try to copy images from webpages (or anywhere that ISN'T saved to my computer and opened in Gimp), I get a message that says "There is no data in the clipboard to paste" when I attempt to paste it into an open Gimp document.

Is there some sort of setting I have to enable? How do I fix this?

Thanks, guys.

Probably a bug in OS X port of GIMP. The alternative is to use File - Open Location... and paste url of image. Or drag and drop the image from the browser to GIMP (this might also fail to work because it's also an OS-dependent feature).

Don't know about Mac but for linux it is dependent on the clipboard and the clipboard setup. Some clipboard applications are more capable than others. This is PCLOS KDE and Gimp 2.8.6 with the klipper setup. Normally I have ignore images ticked but unticked and it does copy a web page image and paste into Gimp.

An alternative if only an image location (text) can be copied to the clipboard is 'open location'

Even this does not always work, depending on location.

Have to confess, stuck in the dark ages and always right-click save any interesting image to a home directory.

various threads have bugs with mavericks from what I've seen on here. You might want to see if there is a screen grab app available for either mac or your specific OSX.

If I find any I'll link them to you later today when I get back.
