Bucket fill, how to make it so?

Bucket fill, how to make it so?
I've picked the color, I've picked the area,, I'm in bucket fill. How the hell do I tell it to change my selected areas to the selected color? jeez, this should not be this hard Sad

With the Bucket Fill tool Bucketfill selected...

Just click inside the selected area.
OR
EditMenu > Fill with FG color (or Fill with BG color)

Then deselect the area SelectMenu > None (if needed).

Post a screenshot of the tool options and the canvas as you are attempting to fill so we can assist you better.
Also your Gimp Version and OS details please.
