Brush size in 2.8
Hi there, new here.

Is there a way to change the behaviour of the brush so it would be logarithmic by 10, and not linear?

I think the development team is working on it. Watch for it in gimp updates Smile

But you could report this as a bug here, then you can watch the progress of it.

RE: Brush size in 2.8
I read somewhere that the GIMP folks are dabbling with the interface in order to pander to supposed "professional" users. Ha! The current brush size gadget in 2.8 makes this an utter joke. Who needs a 1000 pixel brush??? On the other hand it's ridiculously difficult to get to small enough brush sizes to work quickly and efficiently. I don't have the rest of my life to screw around with the size gadget constantly in order to get a simple brush size change to do my work! Whoever designed that stpuid gaget is obviously not an artist. What kind of "professional" cliental do they think they are fishing for anyhow? Grrrr. If I wanted a stupid, clunky, time-wasting interface I would go back to that piece of **** Photoshop!

RE: Brush size in 2.8
I see the brush size issue is already addressed. Indeed! Much of my work is 4000px canvas or less, and I use bushes in the 20-50 range. 1000+px? Sheesh.

Is there a file controlling that slider that we can adjust to, say 400px max?

If you're trying to address your comments to the developers, you're doing it in the wrong place. All the evidence suggests that this forum isn't visited by any GIMP developers. You could try adding your voice to the others commenting on this, the most recent thread on the GIMP Users mailing list being this one: http://www.gimpusers.com/forums/gimp-use...zes-in-2-8

I was going to ignore this but it does seem like yet another pointless (and hysterical) exercise in Gimp bashing.
Should be, if you do not like Gimp, go and use something else, but that is only my opinion.

Yes the brush size controls could do with some tweaking. For example, Why decimal places?

Work with what is there. Want a specific size, enter it on the keyboard.

RE: Brush size in 2.8
Thank you so very for showing the ways to adjust brush sizes! All I've known about was the Large Sizing slider and attempting to swipe select the numbers for editing. The Square Brackets method works great!

Some experimentation revealed how to make Small Sizing work. I hadn't noticed that feature before.

This makes brush use much easier now. Thanks again!

Well, rich2005's explanation makes it "easier" to understand how the brush size widget works but it's still a flawed design. Everything is in the wrong place. Slider should be for fine tuning between 0 and 50 and arrow buttons should be for 1 pixel steps. Whoever wants a 1000 px brush or other weird size could type the value in the widget.

I've seen this kind of arrogance in every open source application. The developer thinks the user should conform to the UI (which a lot of times is enigmatic and non-standard) instead of the other way around.

Seriously, GIMP devs need to listen more to their users. If I weren't so attached to open source software, I would have thrown GIMP and it's annoying interface a long time ago.

The same is true of commercial applications, but before you see them you have been subjected to a barrage of raving reviews so you feel compelled to like it. The possibility that you had to fork several hundred dollars or sweat over the cracking/downloading from dubious sites also increases the consideration you may have for the software.
