Brush plugin that looks like a real paintbrush
Hi,

I'm a complete newbie to gimp, certainly 2.8, so forgive my ignorance.

I'm wondering if there is a brush plug in available that when used looks like an actual paint brush stroke?

It may of course be possible with the brushes supplied and I just don't know how to do that. In which my apologies for posting in the wrong place. If so however would someone let me know that and I'll post something on the appropriate forum.

Many thanks and regards
Colin

No plugin as such, Gimp 2.8.x has brush dynamics which might suffice.

Using Gimp 2.8.x there more brushes than previous versions of Gimp but you will probably need to find some additional 'artistic' types.

Brushes can be native Gimp 'something.gbr' or photoshop 'something.abr'
Both these types go in the same folder. C:\Users\"yourname"\.gimp-2.8\brushes.

Where to find them, all over the place, but you could start here
http://browse.deviantart.com/resources/a...hes/?q=oil
or
http://www.ramonmiranda.com/2010/04/phot...shkit.html
This last one is a big 12 MB .abr file containing several large brushes but worth having, do not forget to unzip before putting in your brushes folder.
Ramon Miranda also has a hand in another application MyPaint which can be used very succesfully with gimp.

Hi there,

Many thanks for the information, I've downloaded the 12 meg file, and will have a play around and see what I can come up with.

Many thanks and warm regards
Colin
