Blurry photo-is there a way to add pixels?
Hello,
I took a photo with my 8 mega pixels smartphone camera, and the object taken was about 6 meters away, but was zoomed in, so the photo is quite blurry, looks like more pixels were needed (wish I had the new smartphones with 16 mega pixels Dodgy)

I was wondering if there is a way to add more pixels, or make my photo less blurry?
because I really like the photo Smile

Thank you!

Hi jamesmith & welcome!

There are some filters that can sharpen the picture if its not too blurry, maybe posting an excerpt of the image or the image in question.

If its not too blurry try
filters enhance >
- unsharp mask,
- sharpen

or GEGL operations... > Sharpen

Hate to break it to you though, you can't add detail that isn't there to begin with. If the textures in your image are common, one idea is to overlay a similar(clear) texture on top of the parts that are blurry and turn the layer(replace texture) opacity down to blend with your original blurry image.

===Post processing===
I recommend using more light in the picture if you can reshoot. Low lighting can be a cause for blurry pictures.
Also try adjusting the exposure past the middle or below, see which one focuses faster/better with your smartphone.

Oh I understand that, thank you Smile
but about the adding detail that's not there:
I sometimes see old films turned into HD, or old photos becoming high-res, but I believe this is done by experts, and it takes alot of time and money and probably the usage of more programs as well.
(I am talking for example when I watch Discovery or National Geographic and they can really turn old stuff into amazingly sharp images)

You answered your own question

You can not add detail that is not there.

Not the same at all, the old films are from celluloid asare the old photos - which have an amazing amount of detail 'built-in'. Try taking some crumby youtube 360x240 video and upping to HD and see what you get.

And that is what not to do, because it is not a physical zoom. The phone electronically takes a bunch of pixels and interpolates up to 8MP. You could have done that yourself with Gimp by taking an un-zoomed image, selecting the bit you want and upscaling.

And get larger, blurrier images Wink

Thanks,
I was told that using upscale will not make it blurry :/
