best tutorial for changing someone's head to another body
I'm looking for a tutorial on how to change someone's head from one body to another. I've watched a few tutorials on youtube , but they are usually for switching faces. They way they do it is not exactly what I'm looking for. The ones I've seen always end up looking like a blend of the two faces , instead of a complete head swap.

Try me, I like to face swap for fun sometimes lol and I think I'm guru at it!

@JanDan: Here's my simple method of face/head swap (more face, but if you make the selection bigger than the head including the hair, then you can erase the extra background around the head and/or neck)

1. Select Freeselect with the free select tool or ellipse select tool the head you want to swap.
2. Copy it into a new layer.
3. move/paste the head to the new body background.(as it's own layer if importing)
4. Right click your new head layer and "add layer mask"
- Click "selection" option, click ok
5. Your new head will disappear for a bit, just erase the middle area of the head on the new body to reveal it. Erase from the center outward.
6. Right click on the new head layer & click "Apply Layer Mask"
7. Do any cleanup to the edges with a soft brush if needed to blend it better. Done! Smile

If ofnuts takes me up on the challenge and puts up two pics I'll show you my end result along with a few picture steps of process tutorials.

RE: best tutorial for changing someone's head to another body
OK 007,

here's your assignment , should you choose to accept it.
Switch the heads of sean connery , and Daniel Craig ( I thought I'd stick to the bond theme since you had it in your sig, lol)

I just have some questions for you, though, and if you could focus on these aspect in you tutorial , please.

1. what do you look for when you're looking for a body to match the head you're going to be swapping?
2. re-sizing of images , and changing the angle so it looks natural
3. In this particular swap there's not too much to worry about with skin tone since most of the body is covered in clothing , but , for example, if you're swapping someone's head that's from a caucasion person with someone who's hispanic, how do you match the transition so it looks seamless?

Sorry if this is too much to ask , but is there a possibility of you doing this as a video tutorial?
I'm not sure if you've got a screen capture program on your computer, but I've found that I could follow tutorials much easier from a video tutorial than a text tutorial. If it's not possibly , then do what you can , and I'll be greatful just to get the help.

Hmm...a video tutorial. I can make it little text with more focus on pictures. The downside with video tutorials is the pacing, I can keep a slower pace with text/picture tutorials.
But...a vid tutorial might be fun to try to do. Stay tuned... ^_^

I'll make it as little text/steps as possible. Working on it soon, thanks for the initial two source pics (lol @ the 007 theme, yep I like the bond movies!)

@offnuts: for skin tones pretty much I mess around with the curves or level tools and it matches it almost perfectly, its easier to go from dark to light(I may do both to show the difference.)

My question is why?

I mean you are not going to do anything silly like take his clothes off next?

I did the above pretty quick, just flipped horz., lightened it up, copy paste as layer, fuzzy eraser and a bit of cloning.

10 minutes work.

RE: best tutorial for changing someone's head to another body
And the other way round.
The problem is there are no hard and fast methods & rules.
Obvious requirements as mentioned before, lighting, avoid great differences in scale, skin tones etc.

You might get some sort of a result with selecting, copying, pasting, flipping, scaling, cloning, masking.
or you might not. Even the facial metrics, - distance between eyes, chin etc are no real guide.

I do remember a series from the past, probably as good a place to start as any
http://gimp-university.blogspot.co.uk/se...-and-paste
its a blog so the first post is at the bottom of the page, then work up.
edit: ah - it is swapping a face, still good practice for you.

RE: best tutorial for changing someone's head to another body
Ok, Here is my tutorial. Sorry I was going to do a video, but camstudio was messing up 1 minute into the video(skewing the image, turning it black & white) So I condensed the tut into a short pic tutorial. (I like the above, but one has a halo and is a little lighter than the image, and the other has a hard edge/pasted on look.

My official face swap 007 style XD
1 & 2. Put pics side by side & merge down/flatten image
Try & have similar sized pics/ faces

3. Select the head(you will have the marching ants selection when complete)
- Copy & paste as new layer.
(See Pic)

4. Move tool & Flip tool
5 & 6: match the size, turn down the opacity in scale Toolbox options.
- Add layer mask (see pic above)
7. Erase from the center of the face outwards carefully.
8. (See pic "7.5") Apply layer mask & match skin tones...

9. The better you erase and align the face the easier it will be to blend the skin tone & look more natural. DONE! ^_^

RE: best tutorial for changing someone's head to another body
hey , thanks everyone, especially 007 for the detailed tutorial.

The one done by rich is the closest to what I was looking for.

007, the one with Craig's face on Connery's body , still looks like a composite. I liked the one with connery's face on Craig's body , with the exception of the top of the head where you coud still see the hair of the old photo. That's just a minor thing , though, as I'm more concerned about the method at this point, I'm sure with more time you could have done it so it would not show.

once again , I appreciate everyone taking the time, I'll post some photos once I've done a few trials.

just for the fun of it. I've always been impressed when someone does a face swap , and always wanted to know how to do it properly. I thought I'd do this with some photos from some family members , just for laughs.

And , no , I don't have any intentions of taking their clothes off, lol.

Use either color balance, colorize, curves or levels.

Colors > color balance
Colors > Colorize
Colors > Levels
Colors > Curves

For most cases, curves does nicely:

I am needing just 1 undetectable photo shop. My son is in prison, recently married a lady in prison. He requested I take his head from photo and "crop" into another setting, for his bride. I have no understanding of method, but in my reaearch, saw your post. If I can link the 2 shots, would you consider doing this for me please?
