Basic question about creating watermarks for video.
Hey, I'm new here, from Toronto. I've had gimp for a while but never got the motivation to learn to use it til now. Anyways, I've been trying to create text logos to be used as water marks for videos. Making the the text images is quite easy and the options under "create logo" are great. The problem is I don't know how to isolate just the text. Is there an easy way to do this? I was told to save files as "GIFS" to place on videos. Apologize if this is an overwhelmingly newb question, any help is much appreciated.

RE: Basic question about creating watermarks for video.
Most logos created through File/Create/Logo have the background on its own layer. So to isolate the text, all you have to do is open the Layers list (Ctrl-L) and click on the "eye" icon next to the background layer (at the bottom). The checkerboard that appears indicates transparency. Then save the file as GIF (or as PNG, which is usually a better choice(*), if it supported by your video software).

Thank you for the quick response, that was very helpful, problem solved. Apparently PNG files are also compatible with Camtasia so I will take your advice on that as well. Thanks again.
