Background/Wallpaper Question
Hi,

I am very new to GIMP and I found a sample (see below link) of the kind of wallpapers I would like to create.

http://sports.desktopnexus.com/wallpaper/1085769/

I guess what I would like to know are the steps I would need to be able to create something like this...?

Thanks in advance

Welcome captain...
Good that you have decided on a 'project' to use to learn Gimp.
I suggest break the task into 3 major components.

1. Finding the appropriate Wade images and learning how to separate them from their backgrounds http://gimpforums.com/thread-proper-subj...d-painting

2. Creating a text layer (Text tool) and how to add a 'drop shadow' (Filters->Light and Shadow->Drop Shadow) and 'bump mapping' (Filters->Map->Bump Map) to give it a 3D look.

3. Creating a background using 'splatter'/'grunge' brushes and a 'supernova' (Filters->Light and Shadow->Supernova)

Once you got those steps down... assemble each component on separate layers and adjust till satisfied .
We are here to help you with the many questions you will inevitably have a long the way...

RE: Background/Wallpaper Question
The one thing I would recommend is to find an image of Wade with a plain a background as possible. If the background dose not have too many different colours then you can make a good selection using either fuzzy select Fuzzyselect or select by colour Bycolorselect
Both of these tools take a bit of practice to get the hang of them, but they do deliver very good results. They're my favourite tools for background removal.
