Animated GIF conversion
Looking to make a movie using animated gif's. I need to make many of these to get the desired effect. I would normally use Microsoft Movie maker, but the new version doesn't recognize gif's as video. Is there a safe site to download a converter or any other way to convert gif's as Wmv's?

RE: Animated GIF conversion seems to be down at the moment but Imagemagick although command line gives an easy conversion from gif to video

convert file.gif file.mpg
convert file.gif file.avi

mpg is 25 fps type1 - constant bitrate Not sure what the avi is, maybe mjpeg.

The windows IM comes with its own ffmpeg, There is also a good windows version here - look in the open source section.
direct link

A bit tedious to use. An individual frame converts like this

ffmpeg -loop_input -i input.png -r 25 -t 10 -qscale 2 output.mpg

(I have a feeling that syntax is now deprecated I will check that out tomorrow)

So you need a batch file to cycle throught the frames and build up the video. There is no equivalent to a gif timing setting in video, you have to do it by multiplying frames

If you build up your own sequence of frames it becomes a single line.

ffmpeg -r 15 -b 1000 -i name%04d.png test.avi

-r = frame rate: -b = bitrate -t time in secs
name%04d.png is a file name along the lines of name0001.png

It all sounds more complicated than it is but it helps if you are comfortable with command line.

RE: Animated GIF conversion
I know nothing about code. I could save individual frames, but I'm talking 100's of them. It's one thing to make that many layers, it's another to save each frame. Any easier way? I took Windows Movie maker off an XP on to my 7, but now it won't save it. I suppose I could transfer all my work on to that one, but that kinda defeats the point of having a computer of my own to work on.
