Animated gif bad quality
Hello,

I made an animated gif but the quality is not as expected. Especially the company logo (wifocarr)

I made 2 layers wich have good enough quality but when I did the following thing:
- filters
- animation
- optimize for gif
the qualtiy really got worse.

Anyone an idea on how to do it?

original gif

THNX!!!

RE: Animated gif bad quality
You have several problems:

1) the original pictures are low quality JPEG, with many artifacts (stray pixels). Not even good as stand-alone image in a decent web site IMHO.

2) GIF only support 256 'colors' total (for all frames). You have two "complex" images (the old truck and the picture of the facilities) that by themselves would already require more than 256 colors to render properly (the artifacts also take their toll on the available colors)

You can do good-looking GIFs, but you have to start from clean images, designed to be used in GIF (low color count...).

As a side note, animated GIFs of this size are a turn-off for many people those days. You should spend you time getting a decent logo (rescan a print version or redi from scratch)

RE: Animated gif bad quality
There are plenty of scripts and plugins for gimp at registry.gimp.org. But you have to know what you look for... I.e. what you need or what problem you are trying to solve (assuming there is an script/plugin for that).

Otherwise, the most useful extension to Gimp is your brain Smile
