Something like this @25%, the original makes a 2.8 MB gif:

edit: just read your post again, and you want to replace the purple area?
Same principle, make a selection covering that area. Maybe fill that with a neutral colour, then duplicate layers.

The brush comes from a different project (Bonanza intro) and is supposed to be an animated fire brush. Not very good, but you are welcome to try it.
It is big, natural size 500x500, and weighs in at 5 MB, too much for the forum so it is here

This is my paid-for account, any problems downloading, post a message.

I don't normally do animations, but things to look out for

Change from indexed mode to RGB
Duplicate the layer as many times a required
Make a selection to constrain the brush.
Feather the selection if required.
Resize the brush and adjust the angle.
Paint part of the flame in each layer in turn
When exporting the gif animation, use replace layers.

The brush can start on any of its frames, so ctr-z to back off when required and try again. No brush dynamics used, but do experiment.

RE: Animated Flame help
hmm.. I see your gif is a lot smaller than the original. Does not necessarily make it easier but here is my stab at it.

Really needs more TLC in the painting process than I am prepared to give.
Change the brush angle and size a few times and go over a second time to add "licks of flame".
