adding an area to an exiting gif
Hi! I've increased the canvas size on an animated gif that I found and it's transparent. I can't work out how to have this new area as something I can put text on with a black background colour. Sorry if this is a very basic question.

Thanks for any help offered.

RE: adding an area to an exiting gif
If these are plain layers in "replace" mode (see their names in the Layers list), make a bottom layer wide enough to contain your text, but keep the other layers at their original size. Then use Filters/Animation/Optimize for Gif, which can reduce some layers but mostly will give a "replace" mode to the bottom one and "combine" mode to the others.
