A simple move is illusive
Hello,
I am a beginner at Gimp and feel quite incapable to do simple things.
I have a problem that I cannot seem to resolve, if it is a problem at all rather then ignorance.
Simply, I am trying to move an area of a picture/layer to a new location.
I use the following steps
1) Rectangular selection tool for the area I am trying to move
2) Hit "Enter" or click in the area to change the selection from "Selection with hadles" to "marching ants"
3) Select the move tool - Note: the cursor does not change to the double QuadPointer but stays a box with the small quad pointer Angry
4) Click and drag - Result, only moves selection box, not content.
Conversly,
if I do not change the tool option from "move: layer" to "move: selection" the entire layer moves - as expected and thus leads me to believe I am following the correct steps.
Can someone tell an old devil dog about this new trick?
PS. If I do a Copy/Delete/Paste, the newly pasted "selection" is movable my current workaround.

Am I the only one having this problem?

Win Vista / Gimp 2.8.2
