A Few Questions
How do I draw straight lines?

Where are the graphics brushes: circles, squares, etc. - hollow, solid.

Various pens, etc

The fonts are a little different to PowerPoint. I assume presentations will show very similarly in PPT.

I find layering a little diifficult to understand at present - sometime layer on layer, if deleting

Thanks

hold the shift also shift control when using a paint tool see
http://www.gimp.org/tutorials/Straight_Line/
also look at snapping to grids and guides for more control.

not quite sure what you mean by this.
There are the old gimp brushes that are not enabled but still there.
look in /usr/share/gimp/2.0/brushes/gimp-obsolete-files/
You can enable that location in edit -> preferences -> folders -> brushes but not recommended.
Why not just copy whatever you need to your gimp profile.

If you need a large (hollow) rectangle, the usual way is make a selection, then stroke the selection.
Same for a solid, make a selection, fill the selection.

hmm...pens not really a Gimp concept. The pencil tool is a brush without anti-aliasing. Back to brushes or maybe use Inkscape.

Thankfully I have not used PPT in many a year. The equivalent in 'buntu will be LO Impress.
Use standard M$ fonts and you might get a suitable result.

Do not really understand the question as such. Check the Gimp docs on layers or expand your question.

To ask a question or pose a statement and gather yes/no opinion on the subject. Which is then ignored by everyone.
