3d outline help
Steps I've done.
created a text say james
then i go to filters then select Alpha to logo
and then click 3d outline and i change everything to 2 and choose to fill blue pattern.
the output tends to have open spots in the text.

My question is that can i fix that in any way

Hi, I am unable to reproduce your results. Perhaps it is the style/shape of the font you have chosen.
Can you post an image showing your results?

RE: 3d outline help
Probably using too small a font size / unsuitable font or the script is is not the effect you want.
What are you using?

example of different font size.

RE: 3d outline help
It is the 3d text script, not meant for what you want to do. The script applies the pattern around the edge of the characters which on that size of font leaves those small 'holes'

There is probably some 100% automatic script somewhere but with a little bit of work.

Make you text
Layer menu -> layer to image size
layer menu -> transparency -> alpha to selection
fill with that pattern
Select menu -> None

gets you here: screenshot http://i.imgur.com/RECfmMi.jpg

Now you need a new plugin, Layer Effects go here and download version 2.8
http://gimpscripts.com/2011/10/gimp-laye...fb-file-60 (while you are there, have a look around, they have lots for logo making)

Pop that in your .\gimp-2.8\plug-ins folder it puts an entry bottom of the layers menu.

Start it and you get a dialog like this http://i.imgur.com/TqO1Cjv.jpg

Do not take the values showm as fixed, please play around until you get a good result

If you want a bit more showdow, use the standard Gimp filter
Filter menu -> Light & Shadow -> Drop Shadow
For that size text, small values, I used 2,2,4 and opacity 90. Again experiment is good.
