I'm switching to GIMP today (I used Paint.Net). I made a logo in Paint.Net and 2 of my fellow colleagues are saying my logo looks unprofessional.
Please have a look: http://shadowsharkstudios.tk/wp-content/...s-logo.png
I really don't see it and my colleagues won't tell me what's wrong with it please help or redo my logo. It's not 100% polished but if it already looks unprofessional, then the final image isn't going to look "that much more" professional. I will credit you forever in our website (If you redo it).

Hi guys i've just installed the new version of Gimp and the layers toolbox does not appear by default.

I've tried the standard solution of File>Windows>Dialog boxes>layers

but that does absolutly nothing. Pressing CTRL+L does not produce the box either. Since its a fresh install and i have not closed it by accident i cannot reopen it using the recently closed windows option.

Is the layers box docked to another window by default maybe?

Also when i make a selection and paste it into as a new image with a transparent background the selection becomes transparent and i dont know how to make it fully opaque.

Cheers,
I just got downloaded GIMP about 3-4 days ago and I've been having some beginner problems. I can't figure out how to add a black glowing border around the signatures I've made. For an example : http://i.imgur.com/EeeReZ5.png / http://i.imgur.com/uLgmVzC.png (2 of 4 signatures I've made). I wanted to give each of the 2 a glowing black border or some kind of border like one of these: http://i.imgur.com/IIL71VC.png
http://i.imgur.com/xNEqEAV.png
I'm confused as to why when I apply a filter to my image or layer it changes the color to B/W or grayscale? I'm sure this is a relatively easy fix, but most filters I'm using don't have many options and I can't seem to apply the filter "as is". It always changes my whole graphic to grayscale.

Hello,

Searched for this but can't see that it's been addressed. I have no problem getting my text along a path but I am having trouble getting the text and the path to align so that the center of the text element is centered on the path.

Is this possible or do I have to figure out someway to make my path of a certain length so it ends up that the text fits to it perfectly??

Here is a screenshot of my current problem. You can see that the text and the image below it are centered. I then placed some guide lines to make sure my path was also centered. When I placed that text along the path though, it left justified the text when I want it to be centered instead..

Hey, is anyone else experiencing trouble with layer effects? For instance if i want to add inner glow for layer, let's call it logo, even though i use the python version of the plug-in i'm unable to see the preview and when i submit the layer effect it creates a new layer but there is absolutely no effect created.

I'm trying to move from windows and photoshop to linux and gimp as my only an primary os and tool in case of gimp. So can anyone explain to me why is such a great feature so sucky in gimp? I mean is there any other way especially for stuff like dropshadow, stroke and stuff like that? I mean i can think of several possible solutions but all of them just seems so slow it makes me want to go back to windows and adobe products.

Could the problem be with my setup? (Ubuntu 13.04, cinnamon)

If anyone can help me i would be most thankful

I used Gimp 2.6 for Printing Clear Film on an Epson Stylus Photo 1400 for allmost 2 years and only recently switched to Gimp 2.8 and today i got shocked by a severe Printing-bug. First i tought it was a problem of the printer, but after parallel-installing Gimp 2.6 everthing printed fine again.

So here is what i found:

Gimp 2.8 will cut off 3mm from the left and top edge of your page, taking away any image parts lying there. I tried Printing A4 and A3, both had the same Problem.

I really dont want to workaround this bug, leaving some space there, because i really appreciate the align function to get the image to the top and left corner, so i can make the most of the available space on the document (my printer cuts away apr. 1cm at the lower and right edge).

My Solution so far is to use Gimp 2.6 in the parallell install just for printout.

Would be interesting to find out if this is a reproducible bug or its just some settings in my new install (which obviously kept all the settings of my previous Gimp Install, even my recently opened documents).

Hi everyone, I'm new to Gimp and the forum. I'm using version 2.8.2, and windows 8.

I must be missing something, but its not apparent to me how I choose a color for any new objects I want to create. I've opened the toolbox with ctrl-b, which appears on the left side of the window. If I want to , for example, draw a red rectangle, I use the rectangular selection tool, then the bucket fill, and I don't see how to change the foreground color to red.

I've read elsewhere in the forum that there should be two rectangles somewhere on the screen that show foreground and background color, but I don't see them anywhere.

Sorry for the super newbie question. Can anyone help?

Thanks,

I'm having a problem, one that I've spent about 7 hours today trying to figure out on my own.

This happened in the previous version of GIMP I used months ago, and now I'm using the latest version: GIMP 2.8.4
On Windows 7
With Intuos4
Working in mouse mode (see below)

The cursor is completely offset to the brush (where it draws) I've set up everything in the Input Devices, working in Screen mode because Window mode makes the tablet unresponsive.

I've went through every driver Wacom has, I'm now using the latest.

I tried looking at the "Mapping" tab on my Wacom preferences only to find it's been removed; on all drivers i've tried.
So I'm stuck in mouse mode, unable to see if it works in Pen

I would be forever thankful for any outside input, I really want to be able to use my tablet with this program.

I have a folder with about 600 transparent PNGs that I use in my photomanipulation projects in Gimp... about 100 of those are the most used of the 600.... would it be a good idea or a bad idea to make Gimp brushes out of those PNGs? or should I just stick to using transparent PNGs via copy and paste?

Hi all
I am learning how to use GIMP 2.8 and looking at tutorials to get a starting point. One of the tutorials i started with needed a plug-in "color vibrance" but when trying to download this plug-in i haven't been able to find it, and i cant get onto the registry.gimp.org/‎ website.

Does any one have any tips for getting hold of plug-ins now this website is down?

Thanks
