I really don't see it and my colleagues won't tell me what's wrong with it please help or redo my logo. It's not 100% polished but if it already looks unprofessional, then the final image isn't going to look "that much more" professional. I've tried the standard solution of File>Windows>Dialog boxes>layers

but that does absolutly nothing. Pressing CTRL+L does not produce the box either. Since its a fresh install and i have not closed it by accident i cannot reopen it using the recently closed windows option.

Is the layers box docked to another window by default maybe?

Also when i make a selection and paste it into as a new image with a transparent background the selection becomes transparent and i dont know how to make it fully opaque.

To my boss my work looks professional.... but to me it looks simple, stupid simple.

I watch YouTube Gimp tutorials a lot but some of them are old Gimp versions so i end up wasting a lot of time.

Searched for this but can't see that it's been addressed. I have no problem getting my text along a path but I am having trouble getting the text and the path to align so that the center of the text element is centered on the path.

Is this possible or do I have to figure out someway to make my path of a certain length so it ends up that the text fits to it perfectly??

Here is a screenshot of my current problem. You can see that the text and the image below it are centered. I then placed some guide lines to make sure my path was also centered. When I placed that text along the path though, it left justified the text when I want it to be centered instead..]]>

I'm trying to move from windows and photoshop to linux and gimp as my only an primary os and tool in case of gimp. So can anyone explain to me why is such a great feature so sucky in gimp? I mean is there any other way especially for stuff like dropshadow, stroke and stuff like that? I mean i can think of several possible solutions but all of them just seems so slow it makes me want to go back to windows and adobe products.

Could the problem be with my setup? (Ubuntu 13.04, cinnamon)

I must be missing something, but its not apparent to me how I choose a color for any new objects I want to create. I've opened the toolbox with ctrl-b, which appears on the left side of the window. If I want to , for example, draw a red rectangle, I use the rectangular selection tool, then the bucket fill, and I don't see how to change the foreground color to red.

I've read elsewhere in the forum that there should be two rectangles somewhere on the screen that show foreground and background color, but I don't see them anywhere.

Sorry for the super newbie question. Can anyone help?
