Simple enough. Why do you do it?

Bonus question: What type(s) of art do you do? GIMP is assumed and for this question doesn't constitute "digital art" by itself. For example, simply adjusting the levels of a photo you took counts as photography, not digital art. Splicing a bunch of photos together into a collage does count, as digital...er, "collaging". Only count things you really enjoy, are proficient at, and/or do at least once a month. Making that one short story for class last year doesn't merit adding "Short stories" to your list.

Oil painting? Pastels? Pencil sketches? Digital painting? Sculpture? Pottery? Poetry? Short stories? Photography? etc...

Feel free to add an "I'd like of do more of _______" section and list your favorite kind of art to make. Be specific.

Let me stop you right there for a second. When you say "simple enough" stick to it or make a brief addition, the bonus question is constricting what art is. Art is many things, whoever is to say what digital art & photography is, it's not fair to discredit one's art for another. Unpause-

That part is good. A better topic opener might be something like:

"Why do you do it? Please be specific or give as much detail as you can?"

Or direct your question to a couple of areas without obviously excluding others (i.e.if your asking about digital art, just ask about that. Photography, maybe ask about workflow in the digital medium."

I don't think you have to start a new thread, an easy reform of the question would be nice

To be fair I'll share a little of why I do "digital" art. Its fun to fix old family photos & create banners and stuff for freelance or personal work & through teaching others about how to fix stuff I learn new ways to fix / make things. I may expand on the digital art side later.

Happy Gimping ^_^
I do digital art to make money
The real question is "What is art?"

Is Thomas Kinkade's stuff art? How about Andy Warhol's? Is that Marcel Duchamp urinal art? How about his Nude Descending a Staircase?

Do those cave paintings in France qualify? How about most of the stuff on Deviantart?

What exactly is ART?

thats DEEP! Smile

to me, I define art as anything good or bad(lol) created from inspiration or from the mind whether it be in digital medium or physical/reality medium.

But what if it's crap? Is some rude drawing on a men's room wall in Jersey City ART? Doesn't it have to have some indefinable quality to be considered ART? What is that quality?

If their author(s) painted them from scratch, yes, else if they followed a "Paint your cave" tutorial then no.

Even if it was a really good tutorial about, say, Proper Subject Extraction and Background Painting? C'mon, then it'd be art, wouldn't it?

Very good. I hadn't thought of that.
